Two Parts of Information Technology

Information technology (IT) is a general term that describes any technology that helps to produce, manipulate, store, communicate, and disseminate information.

Information technology, as the name suggests, are systems comprising of a number of components that work in conjugation to process information. The information to be processed can arise from within the organization or external elements that it deals with.

Technology can be thought of as the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. From the invention of the wheel to the harnessing of electricity for artificial lighting, technology is a part of our lives in so many ways that we tend to take it for granted. As discussed before, the first four components of information systems hardware, software, network communication, and data, are all technologies that must integrate well together.

Two Parts of Information Technology

There are two parts of information technology, they are described as thus:

• Computer Technology

Computer technology one of the parts of information technology  is used to serve and connect people in the modern world. Desktops, laptops and mobile devices network the world together and perform multiple operations at once; however, this industry includes more than these machines. Individuals, communities, government and organizations rely on computer technology to produce or innovate the majority of things in their lives, such as food, services, entertainment, care, communication, education and transportation.

A computer is a programmable, multiuse machine that accepts data raw facts and figures and processes, or manipulates, it into information. Its purpose is to speed up problem solving and increase productivity. An example of computer technology is the development of a software program that allows people to accomplish work at home which has been automatically assigned from computers at their job location.

• Communications Technology

Unquestionably you’ve been using communications technology for Communications technology, also called telecommunications technology, consists of electromagnetic devices and systems for communicating over long distances. The principal examples are telephone, radio, broadcast television, and cable TV. In more recent times, there has been the addition of communication among computers which is what happens when people “go online” on the internet. Online means using a computer or some other information device, connected through a network, to access information and services from another computer or information device. A network is a communications system connecting two or more computers; the internet is the largest such network.

Benefits of Computer and Information Technology

Computer and information technology has some promising benefits in the society and all areas including:

• Learning and Education

Computer and information technology has improved learning and education as more individualized (personalized), interactive and specialized learning are now properly integrated into the curriculum and classroom. Information technology has also (1) allow students to personalize their education; (2) automate many tedious and rote tasks of teaching and managing classes; and (3) reduce the teacher’s workload per student, so that he or she can spend more time on reaching individual students.

• Health Services

Computer and information technology is driving high-tech wellness in health sector in the society and changing the tools of medicine. All medical information, including that generated by X ray, lab test, and pulse monitor are all computer based.

• Money

The information technology is sufficed greatly towards Cashless society, since the future of money is increasingly digital, likely virtual, and possibly universal, (Virtual means that something is created, simulated, or carried on by means of a computer or a computer network, and we certainly have come a long way toward becoming a cashless society). Some banks and other businesses are backing an electronic-payment system that allows internet users to buy goods and services with micropayments, electronic payments of as little as 25 cents in transactions for which it is uneconomical to use a credit card.

• Leisure

Information technology is being used for all kinds of entertainment, ranging from videogames to telegambling. It is also being used in the arts, from painting to photography.

• Government & Electronic Democracy

The explosion of the internet has made it possible for general participation in civic realm and The internet and other information technology have helped government deliver better services and have paved the way for making governmental operations more transparent to the public.

The internet is also changing the nature of politics, enabling political candidates and political interest groups to connect with voters in new ways, to raise money from multiple small donors instead of just rich fat cats, and (using cellphones and text messaging) to organize street protests.

• Jobs and Careers

Today almost every job and profession requires computer skills of some sort. Some are ordinary jobs in which computers are used as ordinary tools. Others are specialized jobs in which advanced computer training combined with professional training gives people dramatically new kinds of careers. And has become a way for employee to find employer and employer to find Etc.
